On June 16, 2015, the FDA issued its review of dietary trans-fat in foods, stating Partially Hydrogenated Oils (PHOs) are no longer generally recognized as safe (GRAS) in human food. The change in legal status of this long standing generally recognized as safe food ingredient will take effect in 2018.
PHOs have already been removed as an ingredient in many of JOLLY TIME® Pop Corn’s microwave products. Formulations for those items still made with PHOs are being reviewed using alternative vegetable oils that will complement and enhance the flavor profile consumers have come to expect when they pop and enjoy our microwave popcorn products.
While the change in legal status of PHOs does not officially take effect until June 18, 2018, JOLLY TIME anticipates the revisions in all products to be completed by early 2016.
