Objective:
Students learn to identify significant historical events and plot those events on a timeline.

Method:
Small group study.

Content:
Divide the class into small groups. Provide each group of students with background information on the history of popcorn. Ask students to identify what they think are the major historical events that played a role in making popcorn as popular as it is today. Then, ask each group to produce a chronological timeline documenting these important events.

Students can create their timelines on long rolls of white paper, which will provide room for them to illustrate each historical event.

Follow-Up:
Ask students to predict what they think the next major event in the history of popcorn could be and to write a short description of it.
